NORTHUMBERLAND JOINT TRADE UNIONS
JOB EVALUATION / SINGLE STATUS UPDATE
Dear Colleagues 10TH February 2011
The Joint Trades Unions have today met with Senior Management regarding the progress of Single Status negotiations with a view to reaching an agreement for 1st April 2011.
Whilst the Joint Unions have been encouraged in the progress and joint efforts that have been made until the end of 2010, discussions have slipped this year and today have broken down as management refuse to negotiate any further on key elements that we believe have to be resolved, in order to reach an agreement in the desired timescales.
We have explained to the Senior Management that we cannot accept their intransigence which would lead to large scale detriment in both pay and conditions, and we cannot accept a position that some terms are non negotiable. We do not expect to meet with management again unless improvements can be offered.
We await their response on our discussions but should the situation not improve we will be arranging wide scale consultations in due course and support from our members to take matters further.
Coupled with the Councils position on arbitrarily changing the severance scheme and the fact they are dismissing approximately 200 people by compulsory redundancies we do not see how we can avoid an industrial dispute, should management not move from their current position.
The Joint Unions are organising a mass rally on budget setting day, Wednesday 23rd February, and we would look for any support or assistance that can be offered by our members on the day, further information to follow.
